February 2022 Dividend Income review

Every month I spend a little time reviewing my portfolio and dividend income albeit this month it is a little later than usual. We have decided to convert our attic into a bedroom and convert from a 3 bedroom house to a 4 bedroom house. However, this means that my office has become a temp room for one of my sons until this is complete. I usually sit down in the evenings or when they are gone to bed and write so this will be difficult until the start of May so don’t expect too much content in that time.

February has been another interesting month particularly as we saw the markets react to the Russian war. I will be honest and say that I expected a little bit more of a reaction but both my portfolios in Degiro and IBRK are holding up extremely well.

Regardless of what is happening in the market, I will stick to my Plan of Investing monthly with the aim of buying top-quality dividend growth stocks. However I am hoping for a larger correction so I can deploy some extra funds into the account

January Dividends

In January I received $188.01 in dividends from a total of 11 companies and CEFs. At&T ($T), British American Tobacco ($BTI), ABBVie ($ABBV), Realty Income ($O), Texas Instruments ($TXN), Blackstone ($BX), Siemens (€SIE) All-Star Growth Fund ($ASG), Calamos Convertible & Hi Income Fund ($CHY), and Clough Global Opportunities Fund ($GLO)

As you can see, My dividend Income started at €5.51 in Feb 2019 and has grown to €188.01 in 2022. This is a huge increase and includes a 94% from last year. My portfolio has gone through a lot of changes since I started in 2018 and I have sold companies like CVS, EV, and AOS and have added quality companies such as Blackstone, Texas Instruments, and Siemens in their place.

What is quite cool is that I have already earned more dividends in the first two months of 2022 than I did in the entirety of 2018 and 2019 combined. This really shows the compounding effect in full flow.

Last year I earned just over €2000 and my current PADI is €2383 which is 9.3% of my goal to make €23000 after-tax a year in dividends. In 2022, I am aiming to try and reach an average dividend of €300 per month which is a pretty lofty goal but we will see what happens.

Recent Buys

I have made three purchases this month. The first one was an initial position in Siemens. We spoke about Siemens on episode 25 of our podcast way back in 2020. You can find our thoughts here Siemens is an instantly recognizable brand here in Europe and plays a fundamental role in my own workplace. By my own admission, I got my timing horribly wrong here as they soon dropped to $120ish per share right after I bought. But this is a long-term position and I may add more at a lower price this month.

I bought another 100 shares of Viatris as the shares dropped to around $10. The shares dropped on the news of them selling part of their business and that growth may be slower than expected. In the same announcement, they also announced a huge $1 billion buyback program. My view has not changed and I feel like there is potential value here My average price per share has been reduced to $12.60

The last purchase of the month was Pfizer ($PFE). This was due to being assigned 100 shares after my Cash secured put was assigned.

Portfolio

My European portfolio now has a total of 11 companies which will give me an estimated income of €760 after tax. I actually noticed a flaw in my spreadsheet where Bayer is showing in place of Enagas. I am in the process of moving everything over to a database and creating a custom dashboard so hopefully, I will find this discrepancy when I’m converting over. Intel is also missing and VZ is still showing so I need to do some work to fix the bugs in the spreadsheet. Hopefully, by next month, I will have the dashboard and database set up and remove some of these inaccuracies.

Short and sweet this month.

Happy Investing!
