The final month of the year is always a good time to reflect and as a dividend investor, it is always exciting to look back to see how much my dividend income has increased. With December almost over and all my dividends have been received for the month, I decided to release this early. I will keep it as short as possible as I plan on doing a full yearly update and comparison at the beginning of January while setting out my goals for the year.

The focus for 2021 was to strike more of a balance between my European portfolio and US portfolio. Europe often lags behind our American friends when it comes to dividends but that does not mean there is a lack of opportunities. Barrons wrote a nice article in the middle of the year about European Dividends being on the mend here https://www.barrons.com/articles/european-dividends-51625251815

December Dividends

We finished off December with a bang and received €238 in dividends from 13 companies. This is the third-highest we have ever reviewed in a month and 84% higher than December 2020. $IBM, $KO, and $INTC have all been dropped from my portfolio in 2021 so I did not receive any dividends from them in December but $UNA, $ORAN, €ENG, $VTRS, $CHY, and $LMT were all newcomers and added over $100 to the dividend pot

While I did not quite double my dividend Income YOY from 2020 we have broken €2000 in dividends after-tax in 2021 which was far greater than expected. This has been helped a little bit by some dividend capturing on European companies such as Flow traders and Bayer who pay dividends maybe once or twice a year. I also re-bought Enagas just before the ex-dividend date in December. I held them before but ended up selling them under assignment as part of my covered call options strategy.

Recent Buys

I ended the month as I have started it by adding more European companies

I added 10 shares of Fresenius who I believe are at a nice price around the €30 mark. Our Friend Phil came on dividend talk during the year to discuss this company if you would like to know more about them. I bought 7 shares of Vonovia as part of their share offering to raise $9 Billion cash and last I bought Chesnara after a comprehensive review by my buddy European DGI.

EU Portfolio

My European portfolio now has a total of 10 companies which will give me an estimated income of €712 after tax. I actually noticed a flaw in my spreadsheet where Bayer is showing in place of Enagas which were just added last week. I am in the process of moving everything over to a database and creating a custom dashboard so hopefully, I will find this discrepancy when I’m converting over. There has been no changes to my US Portfolio over the last month.
